Armstrong House
Originally built in 1912 and donated to PRLC in 2004, the Armstrong House grounds PRLC in the history of Pound Ridge. Today, the Armstrong House serves both as PRLC’s headquarters and home to our Land Steward.
Armstrong House has been meticulously renovated and updated over the years thanks to hundreds of volunteer hours and the leadership of past and present PRLC board members. Armstrong House demonstrates some ways to “live lighter on the land,” as explained by former PRLC President Mike Kagan. The grounds surrounding Armstrong House include a garden that is used to cultivate food and a nursery of native plants used to restore our preserves , a composting facility, and a chicken coop.
Over the years, the Armstrong House has been used as an education center and has hosted a variety of programming including hands-on workshops, educational lectures and nature documentary movie nights. In 2011, AP Environmental Classes from Fox Lane and John Jay conducted research into alternative energy systems and other projects that continue to benefit this green community resource, including gray water recycling, biogas generation and use, and wind and solar power.
