Raptors of the Night: An Introduction to the Owls of New York

  • Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/91795486024?pwd=aTF2YlFhRnBpWDEzNlJvTTdsa0IyQT09 Pound Ridge, NY (map)

Owls (Order: Strigiformes) are a nearly cosmopolitan group of primarily solitary, nocturnal birds of prey. Frequently seen as symbols of wisdom and mystery, and irreparably associated with wizards and Tootsie Pops, owls are also recognized for their unique morphology, sensory capabilities, pellet regurgitation and silent flight.

Join us for a virtual talk with Dr. Devin DiGiacopo, Stewardship Grants and Projects Coordinator at Teatown Lake Reservation, to learn more about the evolution, diversity, and biology of owls, with an emphasis on the inhabitants of our region. In addition, Dr. DiGiacopo will speak about his experience with saw-whet owls and what ornithologists have learned from efforts to band them during migration. It’s sure to be a hoot!
