Treasures Underfoot: Mosses, Lichens, and More

  • Halle Ravine Winterbottom Lane NY, 10576 United States (map)

In partnership with Westchester County Parks, we are thrilled to introduce Taro Ietaka, Supervisor of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, who will take us on a walk and talk through our Halle Ravine. Together, we’ll spend the morning appreciating those things most of us step or sit on but rarely appreciate: mosses, lichens, and liverworts, plus their allies and neighbors the ferns and fungi.

We’ll learn about their evolution and role in their environments, as well as how to recognize the most common species in our area.

Bring a hand lens or good camera/phone; rubber boots recommended if it has been rainy!

Also, please note that this hike will depart from the end of the Winterbottom cul de sac. Please plan to park and meet us there!
